Dreams of a New Bangladesh

(First published: October 16, 2013)

The people of Bangladesh want change. But for lasting change, change must come from within the people.

How will people bring about change?

People of Rural Areas ....

Can't the people of the rural areas come together to solve the various problems of the villages? Can't the young people who used to spend their time chatting, if they want to, unite and become "heroes" in the eyes of everyone with new initiatives? Can't everyone unite to ensure that injustice is not done to people of a particular caste, religion, group, or profession? Can't everyone take a stand against dowry, child marriage, and the various social problems arising from these, such as violence against women? Shouldn't there be competitions in various issues among the villages? Let everyone be proud of their own village during the year-end festival: some villages may be in education, some in agriculture, and some in protecting women's rights and dignity.

Our Young Generation ....

We have a huge young generation full of vitality. 50 percent of the country's population is 23 or younger. There is no shortage of dreams, enthusiasm, and passion among these young people. They have not seen much defeat - so they do not want to admit defeat. They prefer to spend time together. The young people of the country have either joined forces and jumped into solving problems with new initiatives - maybe a problem in their own college or university, maybe in their own area. Someone may have invented something that will completely change an aspect of the lives of many people. Our modern technology-dependent young generation may want to use social media as a tool for social change!

Businessmen, Professionals and Others ....

Why would others wait then?

The business owners community will lend their hands with their experience in this huge work - their own profit is also theirs, they have also been able to be a part of changing the lives of many people. Professionals will perform their respective duties more creatively and more efficiently, keeping pace with the youth. The enlightened people of the country will contribute to building good citizens with good moral character and values. Literary people and artists will inspire everyone with the dream of truth and beauty. Professionals and respected teachers will unite and build their own institutions according to their own hearts. Lawyers will fight together to establish the rights of the people and the people will build a collective resistance to all injustices and injustices, whether they are against any person, institution or group. Journalists will search for and publish the truth and the people will ensure their safety. With the inspiration of educators, every citizen of the country will become thoughtful - they will make their own decisions based on their knowledge, judgment, and logic. The country's intellectuals and civil society will pour all their talent into practical action plans. Perhaps an organization will be formed that will coordinate various initiatives from different parts of the country, find and implement new solutions to the country's various problems, and ensure that the interests of people of every class and profession, regardless of race, religion, and color, are protected through a democratic process based on everyone's opinions.

Our Politicians

And our politicians?

Politicians will also forget their own interests and work hand in hand with everyone - how can they get by without working together?

In this way, when everyone, from their own position, joins themselves in a dream bigger than themselves, the country will develop like a dream. Is there anything more joyful than working towards a goal with a big dream in mind?

Can we dream?

The Beginning of New Politics

Can we dream that there will be a major change in the country's politics before the next general election? The next election will be free from the influence of black money and muscle power. The MP (Member of Parliament) candidates from each area will focus on solving the various problems of their respective areas with everyone. People of each area will choose the one who can do this work with the most efficiency, creativity and honesty and gain the trust of everyone. He will be the respected leader of the people. He knows that a place in the hearts of the people is more permanent and important than a position in the party or government. Can't we hope that the next election will be based on merit? The MP candidates will try to understand the minds of the people by conducting surveys and will try to win their hearts accordingly. They will not only make their own statements heard by the people, but they will be more interested in listening to the people's statements, hopes, aspirations, problems and taking practical action plans to implement those hopes, aspirations, problems. Can't we hope that at least in a few areas, a few MP candidates or candidates hoping for nomination will soon set an example for everyone by taking such initiatives - our media will inspire their initiatives - and in that - those who are behind in taking initiatives will also be behind in their chances of winning the elections. This realization can usher in healthy competition in politics. This wind of change will quickly spread to local government representative elections and elected public representatives. And in this way, perhaps a new trend will begin in the country's politics.

New Wave Political Parties

In the new style of politics of Bangladesh, political parties will also be of a new style. The practice of democracy will not only be reflected in the governance of the country, but will also be reflected in the internal work plans of political parties. Appointments to every position, including the top positions of the party, will be determined by following a democratic process. This will ensure the victory of qualified people. Every leader, activist and supporter of the party and their opinions will become important. Honest, more qualified leaders, activists and supporters of each party will play a role in this auspicious change. From local to national and international - there will be a balance of power instead of a single authority at every level of the party. And if there is a balance of power, accountability will be ensured. Democratic values will prevail in the selection of candidates in every election. Party leaders and activists will ensure candidacy by winning the trust and hearts of the people. If any political party in the country can quickly bring these positive changes and attract everyone's attention, it will be an exemplary model for all political parties in the country.

Next Government

The party or coalition (of parties) that comes to power through the competition of new political parties will prioritize the interests of the country and the people of the country and will undertake new goals and creative programs to implement those goals. The next government will undertake an action plan with improvement in various indicators as its target - increase the GDP growth rate to 8%, surpass neighboring countries in terms of per capita income, show massive improvement in the corruption index, show improvement in various crime indicators by strictly suppressing crime, achieve targets in various social indicators (such as education, infant mortality rate, etc.). It will not promote its own success by its own standards, but will evaluate success and failure by international standards.

We want to see a happy, prosperous Bangladesh free from poverty, injustice, crime and corruption.

We can surely dream that Bangladesh, one of the 11 countries in the "Next Eleven," will one day become one of the world's largest economies.
